How to create a post on Google My Business

As promised Google has fully integrated My Business with Google Maps and Google Search. Though many including this website admin would have preferred the old look, it is time to move on.

Reaching your brand profile on Google Maps

If someone types in your brand name on Google Search this is what is visible on desktop.

We have searched for the term “sukaone” and we already have an entry in Google Maps through Google My Business. Now if you are the owner of this profile or the manager, you will instead see the following.

Sukaone is the one stop solution for digitization of your brand or business. So here we shall create a post for marking your brand location on Google Maps.

Types of posts that can be created on business profile

On clicking “Add Update” option you are presented with three options.

  • Add update
  • Add offer
  • Add event

Event is a good way to notify your followers about upcoming activities with a fixed time duration. You can set a start and end date and time. A large space for giving details about the event and space to add photos. There is also a button option which can either be a call button or a link for booking or sign up. This button can also be configured as a WhatsApp Chat link.

Offer space is a good choice to announce any discount coupons to your customers. There is also a space for showing the voucher code. Finally there is a link to redeem the offer on a website.

An update is the best option to post on your business profile. Here we get an option for uploading upto 10 photos in one post. You also get a generous space of 1500 characters to add description. The button option is available here too.

The post is then kept for review before it is visible for all.

Posts can contain pictures as well as videos.

Here are the few key points you need to keep in mind while creating posts on Google My Business.

Why posts might get rejected?

Posts that contain a phone number will definitely get rejected.

Sexually explicit posts, suggestive content, abusive language, offensive images and politically sensitive data can be rejected.

Posts on banned goods and substances will also be rejected.

Low quality images, misspellings, bad content or thin content will be rejected.

While you are free to link any website to your post, you have to keep in mind that google is monitoring the links and the posts too.

A post is either marked as live, pending or Not approved.

You can also see the analytics of the post as to how many times it has been viewed and how many times the button has been clicked.
