What do entrepreneurs do with their free time?

free time

Eat, sleep, work, repeat, if social media is to be believed. However entrepreneurs hardly rest. They eat like normal people so that leaves one option, work.

The first mistake that all first time entrepreneurs do is go look out for clients. Why is it not the most logical thing to do? Let us explore.

Entrepreneurship requires lots of preparation almost all the time

In an interview with Sunaina Saraf, owner and founder of Zodin Lifestyle when asked about the start point of any entrepreneurship journey said, “First you need to begin curating what product you want to sell. For every possible product there is a customer out there who wants to buy it.”

This is exactly opposite to what we believe is the best approach, go for customers first.

But what preparations are required for first timers.

Choosing your product/service

There are number of ways you can choose which product you want to sell. On the top should be something which you should like doing. Again and again. It should also be something you are good at.

One common problem with people in our country is that we are pushed for the career of choice of our parents. If that is the scenario with you then you must be in some career and profession which you are either not good at or do not like it. If that be the case then you need to go back to the drawing boards.

Marking your presence

Most entrepreneurs begin with a social media presence. For that you need to be both social media savvy and must have the time too. However there is no better way than on the good old way of meeting people.

Start with meeting the people who are already in that field. Join a business group like Business Mates Delhi or a training program like JiSOT. As a beginner, interactions with fellow brand owners goes a long way to boost your morale. The best stress buster too.

Begin with a minimalist presence and work your way ahead.

Build a customer base

There will be a time when you will begin with no customers. During that time you will have a lot of spare time on hand. This part will be covered at the end of the article. Even beginning with a handful of customers you have to work to keep them for life. Why is it so important to value each customer?

Because they are the best advertisers. Also they are possible repeat customers. Plus they are walking and talking testimonials of your dedication.

What should you do with your free time

Any time invested for self improvement adds of to your life pool of knowledge and experience. So any free time you get should be invested in reading and learning. Become familiar with your product. Find out the variations and how others are selling it. What is the customer profile who use this product. Are there any alternatives. Is there any future tech which will replace the product.

So on concluding part do not run after clients all the time. You will get your chance with customers. But the remaining time should be in rest or self development.
